Onset Computer

Since 1981, Onset has been exclusively dedicated to the design and manufacture of miniature, battery-powered data loggers. We focus on providing reliable and affordable loggers that are easy to use in a wide variety of indoor, outdoor and underwater applications. Our new 40,000 square-foot facility in Bourne, Massachusetts, allows us to meet the growing demand for our popular products. We now offer over 80 different models of miniature data loggers and controllers with exceptional quality and value.

How can quality products be so inexpensive?
We deliver tens of thousands of data loggers every year. This considerable volume allows us to obtain lower prices on parts, use a higher degree of automation and increase manufacturing efficiencies - all of which lead to significantly lower costs. Our philosophy is to pass on these savings to you. Currently, we have over 40,000 customers using over 900,000 data loggers around the world.

Loggers you can count on
Designing a reliable logger comes from over 20 years of time-tested experience - keeping designs simple, choosing quality components and incorporating newer technologies. For example, our HOBO U-series data loggers offer direct USB interface, use the latest in surface mount technology and have over 90% of their components applied by automated pick-and-place machines. Since 1992, all of our data loggers have been manufactured at Onset, allowing us greater control over quality and resulting in highly reliable products. Onset is also committed to making our data logger technology accessible to everyone. Read our Section 508 Conformance statement.

Sensors MagazineNASA uses HOBO data loggers
When NASA went looking for miniature loggers to record space suit temperatures, they turned to Onset and selected a tiny version of our HOBO temperature logger. On NASA's STS63 mission flown by the space shuttle Discovery in February 1995, several space suit gloves were equipped with tiny HOBO data loggers to measure the temperatures of astronauts' fingertips during space walks. Data from the HOBOs allowed NASA engineers to effectively size internal glove heaters. Since 1995, NASA has continued to use HOBO data loggers to measure glove temperatures and for other space shuttle applications. What's In a Name?
Our name-brand products all have one thing in common -- trains. From a fleeting thought of railroad paraphernalia, the names HOBO and StowAway were branded to our data loggers by Onset company founders. Software was then called BoxCar and even custom controller data loggers were named Tattletales. Over the years, we have had an enthusiastic reaction to the HOBO name. In some markets, our customers have told us that HOBO has become a generic name for data loggers. At NASA, the HOBOs have been deployed on every shuttle launch since April 1995, and HOBO has become a standard part of NASA's terminology. We have had many customers say, "You should change your name to the HOBO company."
