Z-World

Z·World is a pioneer in the embedded controls industry, providing high-performance reliable embedded control solutions since 1983. Z·World offers a complete line of low-cost control solutions, including single-board computers, core modules, and operator interfaces for embedded control, communications, and Ethernet connectivity. In addition, Z·World provides comprehensive and free technical support to customers for both hardware and software issues, backed by thorough information and documentation easily accessible via a web-based technical support center.

In 1989, Z·World launched Dynamic C®, the first integrated software development system specifically designed for embedded systems. Dynamic C provides all the tools required to develop robust, real-time control systems for Z·World products. An integrated C compiler, editor, loader, and debugger, Dynamic C substantially reduces application development efforts, saving OEMs significant development time and costs.

Hardware and Software Products
Z·World single-board computers (SBCs) are small, powerful computers designed for embedding in all types of industrial and OEM control applications. Unlike a conventional PC, Z-World's single-board computers are designed specifically for control tasks and are more reliable for industrial applications. Z·World SBCs interface directly with a vast array of input and output sensors, controlling electronic and electromechanical devices.

Z·World's Dynamic C software is specifically tailored for control and embedded systems applications, allowing design engineers to develop projects quickly for fast time to market. Software development using Dynamic C is interactive and fast. Both C and Assembly code can be written, compiled, and tested without leaving the Dynamic C development environment. While programs are executing, developers can monitor events in real-time. With Dynamic C, there is no need for expensive in-circuit emulators, logic analyzers, or software simulators.

Applications and Markets Served
Z·World provides products to an expanding range of industries and markets, including telecommunications, packaging, semiconductor manufacturing, test and instrumentation, remote system monitoring, and security/access control--just to name a few. Customers include Lockheed, Boeing, McDonnell Douglas, IBM, GM, Ford, and NASA, along with thousands of small- and medium-sized companies.

Z-World's products are found in industrial, commercial, and scientific applications, in volumes ranging from small numbers of SBCs for an in-house application to hundreds of connected boards for a complex factory installation. Applications include:

* Wireless communication and networking devices
* Biometrics and access control systems
* Material handling systems
* Medical devices
* Automated food production systems
* SCADA/utility control systems
* Gaming machine monitoring and reporting
* Railroad crossing control and monitoring
* Automated fabrication machinery
* Test and measurement/laboratory equipment

Strategic Alliances
Z·World aligns with key strategic business partners in order to maximize customer support and market coverage. Dozens of specially trained international distributors are located in major countries throughout the world. Z·World also partners with a pool of certified consultants--including system integrators, design consultants, and software developers--to ensure quality support for customers.

Commitment to Low-Cost Control
Z-World's approach to embedded development using an integrated development environment emphasizes our commitment to supplying and supporting our customers with low-cost solutions for their control systems. This single hardware/software solution provides customers with the most direct method for developing their applications.

Z·World invests heavily in R&D and is continually introducing new products. In 1997, Z·World moved to its current 24,000-square-foot headquarters in Davis, Calif., 70 miles east of San Francisco. The company's energy-efficient production/administration facility is climate controlled by Z·World products. In 1999, Z·World founded Rabbit Semiconductor, a fabless microprocessor sister-division, which designs and sells microprocessors and development tools.
